Karen Hontz oversees the Small Business Prime and Subcontracting federal procurement programs,
the Small Business Innovative Research and Technology Transfer Programs, the development of size standards,
and small business federal procurement policy development in general. She is a member of the Chief Acquisition
Officers Council and is the Chair of the Council's Small Business Task Force. Hontz also serves on the
board of the Integrated Acquisition Environment.
Hontz has been with the SBA since 1991 and has held various agency positions including Counselor
to the Administrator and Associate Deputy Administrator for Congressional and Legislative Affairs.
She has also severed two details to Senator Snowe on the Senate Small Business Committee.
Hontz holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and economics from Furman University
and a master's degree in political science from George Washington University.
